The last game against the Druids saw the Meanies explode out of the gates and get 2 shorthanded goals in 2 minutes. This time however it was a more nervy start, with the game been more even for the first half of period 1.
In fact it was the Druids that broke the deadlock after 12 minutes. As normal this stirred the Meanies into life and 4 minutes later and after a lot of pressure the Meanies equalized with a nice solo effort from Browning. With the Meanies putting a team out tonight with a 50/50 split it was obvious that the ladies would have a big impact on the game. This was the case with 5 minutes left in the period, strong and forceful play by A Prue in defence meant she could get the puck to a out rushing Young, she went into the zone hard and centred for Kenny who poked home for the go ahead goal. 2-1 after 1 and the Meanies knowing that they have a large GFA to make up had to really step it up a notch.
The step up took 2.5 minutes of period 2. Tyler and D Prue had the Druids turned inside out in center ice and this allowed a neat pass to Browning to get his second of the game, 3-1 Meanies. A minute and a half later Tyler broke through the Druids defence on the far side and going in alone Tyler rarely misses and this time was no exception, 4-1 and the Blue army was becoming unstoppable. 3 minutes later it was Tyler again, This time the strong back check from Browning allowed Young the space to carry forward and feed Tyler the puck for his second nice and high, 5-1. The next goal was a nice point shot that the Druids goalie had no idea where it was and I mean literally. Kenny drew the penalty well but still had the puck, so with arm raised Kenny shovelled the puck behind the goal to D Prue who controlled well and feed sister Amber at the point. The Druids must have thought the penalty was to us as he turned his back on the play and Amber just put it top corner whilst he wasn’t looking. Very bizarre but who cares 6-1 Meanies. A minute later Sub Brittany, who I must say was rather good, you can come sub for us any day, got the puck in our own and yet again a very good trademark Blue Meanies breakout allowed D Prue to carry and suck in all the Druid players, then center for Kenny to get number 2 of the night, 7-1. It was then Amber turns to provide for Brother Derek. Acton battling as hard as usual at the back poke out the puck the A Prue who with a “thread the eye of the Needle pass” picked out her brother, he then made the goal look so easy by calm slipping it over the glove hand.
So 2-1 after one period and then 8-1 after two, now that’s what I call a second period.
Third is where it got a little silly. The Druids obviously a little put out by having 7 unanswered goals scored on them started to get physical and I don’t mean in a good that’s strong play way, I mean a open ice hit on a girl way. In fact poor Melissa seemed to take the brunt of all of it. The ninth goal of the game came after 3 minutes Acton now a forward took a great feed from Browning, he then popped it to a fast streaking Esposite, and she then made no mistake by shelving top right. Next came a blatant cheap shot, Young got hit at centre ice so hard that when she finally stop sliding on the ice she was at the bench. This just rallied the ladies and resulted in the funniest part of the game. After the hit the ladies were obviously pumped and with a druid for hacking at Scott and looking to hit amber, in steps Kristie, bang down he goes, he gets up in comes Amber, bang down he goes again and then the crowd draws.
Normally it might Matt, Kelly, Richard and Ray but not this time getting ready to clean house was Amber, Kristie, Melissa and Brittany, way to go girls. At that point I just sat back and watched. The Druid forward actually came up to me and said that our girls were mean. That’s why they call us the Blue Meanies.
With the clock ticking down Captain Jones thought he scored, having taken a nice feed from Kenny in the high slot he put the puck 5 hole. The Whistle went the puck was in the back of the net and the celebrations started. But it was waved off, come on ref how else did it end up there. But not to be put off literally the next shift, Browning with an excellent pass to Esposite she carried in and centred to Jones who did exactly the same thing 5 hole and this one counted.
So final score 10-1 Meanies and shenanigans’ weren’t over there, in the centre ice hand shake at the end one of the Druid guys hit poor Melissa in the Face, I’m mean come on does that make you feel like a big man. The Druids better pray they don’t meet us in the play-offs because the ladies don’t forget shit like that.
Tonight the Slugs and it’s time for their winning streak to end, The Meanies are bringing the Salt
